The aim of the Health Enhancement Program (HEP) was to promote physical activity and general well being among a cohort of medical students through raising their awareness of the importance and relevance of regular physical activity and sleep regulation. Departing from other programs, HEP also included a knowledge-based component  as well as a quantification element in the form of continuous data collection via a wearable wireless sensor. The recorded daily physical activity data and sleep was made available to the students. To motivate participants, we designed, in collaboration with the School of Computing, an internet-based platform which contained forums, (with HEP relevant information and resources), as well as daily self-selected challenges, which students could achieve on an individual basis as well as a “house” team. The HEP challenges winners, in the individual and house categories, received prizes. Students’ consultation was obtained for the challenges, the reward system and prizes’ selection.
