ADAPTING TO AGEING FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS - workshop/seminar (53)
The vulnerability of healthcare and other professionals to stress, burnout and other mental health issues has been well documented. An emerging challenge is how professionals adapt to ageing, given the greying of the workforce
The Adapting to Aging Advisory Group (A3G) Australia has been formed to evaluate and conduct relevant research and to develop evidence based strategies to assist healthcare professionals maintain wellbeing, physical and mental health, and to deal with the particular professional challenges of ageing. This includes a specific focus on cognitive changes associated with age.
We propose to present a workshop/seminar (60-90min) for up to 30 participants, where relevant international research on aging in health professionals will be presented. Areas to be discussed include, expected cognitive changes, developmental issues, maintenance of physical health including nutrition, brain health, workplace adaptations, planning for, and the transition to, retirement. The difficulties of measuring cognition in this population and the use of an alternate self-assessment tool, the CogState will be discussed.
The workshop aims to give information but also to engage the group in developing strategies and to share ideas.
