Doctors’ Health - Is there any difference from patients’health? In other words, how do we define illness? (81)
The paper is attempting to review briefly the hallmark events in the development of medical services, from a historical perspective and reflect on the impact these events have had on the current state of health care. When we review the meaning of such words like: “illness”, “ill health”, “un -wellness” and the medical training, we can observe a gradual decline in quality, despite apparent progress and a slow but clear alienation of the “healer” from the “soul of the “health business”…Why do we separate doctors from patients and how can we be humanistic if medical practice becomes routinized, regulated and influenced by observer bias in most areas of practice? And what can we learn from psychiatry?
Are we/ doctors able to get involved in a real holistic approach, validating of our selves as well as embracing the whole value of our patients? And, if that is so, how can that aim be achieved within existing co-ordinates of health care provision systems?
The presenter might decide to engage the audience in a practical exercise inviting reflection on the possibility of un-biased approaches toward health promotion rather than illness aversion.
