Elizabeth Dolan RN, Grad Cert in Health (Palliative Care) Elizabeth trained as a Registered Nurse in Dublin over 30 years ago. She brings with her a wealth of nursing as well as life experience. At the start of her nursing career she worked for UNHCR in Vietnamese refugee camps in Asia before migrating to Australia in 1987. Since then she has worked in theatre, day surgery, aged care, community palliative care and is now working as a clinical nurse specialist (CNS) at Lismore Base Hospital. Over the years she has seen the toll that working within an underfunded, under resourced, highly stressful health care arena has had on herself and her colleagues. Not only that she has seen how health care professionals are their own worse enemy in that they know how to self care but often don’t. Through learning to reconnect with herself and through actively learning to care for herself she has not only been able to continue to work within the health care system but to thrive within it. She now presents Wellness Days for health care professionals. She brings to this conference a love for people, a passion for nursing, a deep understanding and know-how of what is needed to build true systems that support health care professionals to be able to deal with the every growing health care crisis without it taking a toll on them.
