Ruth is a general practitioner and Associate Professor at the Department of General Practice, University of Melbourne. She has clinical and research interests in lesbian and bisexual women’s health and sexual health, same-sex parenting, health care access, health care provider cultural competence training, and cultural issues related to alcohol and smoking in the LGBT communities. She is a member of the 2013 Victorian Ministerial Advisory Committee on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Health and Wellbeing, and was also on the committee from 2000 to 2010. This role included the development of a guide for publicly funded health services on GLBTI inclusive practice. She has also written a guide for GLB sensitive care in general practice that has been endorsed by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
